by Abbie McDougall, Grade 8, Summit Alternative School, Ottawa, Ontario
Abbie made a tally table, then a frequency table of three modes of transportation to school: bus (20) walk (4) and cycle (1). She created a bar chart showing the numbers of students taking each mode, as well as a circle graph showing percentages for each mode. She described the circle graph, saying it showed that more students take the bus. She felt that the bar graph was a better choice than the circle graph because it gave exact numbers and was easier to look at and make conclusions from. She supposed that more students in her class take the bus to school than any other method of transportation because the majority of them live far away from the school.
